I am testing a web scraping ML algorithm and when checking logs I found out a couple of clarinet websites selling drugs. How is it possible to have such websites in clear? I thought when registering for a domain name you had to give your personal data and the ICANN or other relevant authority could … Read More “Do anonymous domain names exist?” »

Is there an easy & quick (& inexpensive) way for me to capture external DNS queries against our domain? For example, if our domain name is ‘domain.com‘, and we have a website, a mail server and a ftp site (i.e. www.domain.com, mail.domain.com, ftp.domain.com), is there a way for me to tell how many times each … Read More “Easy, Quick & Cheap way to tell who is querying your domain records?” »

One of the teachers at a school that I work for put in a ticket because our antivirus software was blocking one of the websites she uses (littlepassports.com). I noticed that our antivirus software (malwarebytes) was classifying it as a malicious website, and that the IP address it was trying to reach was 127.42.0.29:55000. I … Read More “DNS returning 127.xxx.xxx.xxx address for website” »

I have a DFS name space which is reasonably lengthy (domain.dev.department.state.com.au) is it possible to have just domain.dev ? Obviously I tried just adding a CNAME for domain.dev > domain.dev.department.state.com.au and the nslookup is working but trying to access the share via commandline or exporer comes up ‘path does not exist’ \domainshare$ and \devshare$ work, … Read More “Is it possible to have dot in a DFS namespace alias?” »

This is a cross post from r/linuxquestions… I setup Bind DNS and Postfix/Dovecot on a VPS. This is probably showing my age a little, but the last time I set this stuff up, IPv6 was not in wide use, mail didn’t have dkim, spf or any of that stuff, and Google was still a baby. … Read More “Bind, Postfix and Google” »
