Hey guys. So I’m going through some MCSE content and I have a question regarding DNS.. So, I can set up a local DNS server in my domain and set a “rule” which will forward packets to external DNS like googles(8.8.8.8) when we need to forward packets to somewhere which isn’t cached in my local … Read More “Questions regarding DNS” »

Do I have to setup zones with HE.net if they are set in my cpanel?

Let me start by saying I’m an amateur. I want to switch my DNS servers from the Hostwinds ones I’m currently using and I think I jumped the gun when I setup HE.net and took my site down for a while. I’m back on the original name server and am unsure about what I need … Read More “Do I have to setup zones with HE.net if they are set in my cpanel?” »

I am migrating over a client that has a .gov domain. The current company that manages their DNS uses GoDaddy nameservers. I use Google for all of my domain management now and wanted to use that instead of GoDaddy. But I can’t find anything related to .gov domains and Google. I must admit that I’m … Read More “Manage .Gov on Nameserver” »

Subdomain TXT record overrides wildcard A record?

Is that so? I have a wildcard A reocrd pointing to my traffic manager, e.g. *.mysite.com, with this I can ns lookup any subdomain, e.g. email.mysite.com, then in order to pass email domain validation, I have a subdomain TXT record, email.mysite.com. With this TXT record, nslookup on emai.mysite.com no longer returns data. Is this by … Read More “Subdomain TXT record overrides wildcard A record?” »

DNS Failover to maintenance page

I have a site running on a single server. Occasionally, it needs to come down for maintenance which takes 1-2 hours. I can’t put a ‘we’ll be right back’ message because the web server software is down. So I just have a 405 error show up. I don’t want to setup load balancing because reasons. … Read More “DNS Failover to maintenance page” »

DNSSEC vs CAA record

I know the validity of DNSSEC has been argued ad nauseum on the internet. But I wanted to come from a slightly different angle (at least I think it’s different). At the end of the day, if your domain doesn’t use it, you are putting all the trust on your TLS CA. So in theory, … Read More “DNSSEC vs CAA record” »

Hello, I am currently facing an issue on CloudFlare where I am trying to have my two sites up on the domain at the same time on two different ports. Currently, I host my main site using an A record pointing to the IPV4 address of the webserver [mydomain.com] (port 80). However, I also have … Read More “Using Cloudflare with two different sites on the same IPV4 address” »
