I’ve had my local DNS set to 8.8.8.8 for at least half a year now, maybe longer. This site has been up and running for over 2 years. All of a sudden today, the site doesn’t load – I get a ERR_CONNECTION_RESET error. If I remove 8.8.8.8 from my local DNS, it loads fine. If … Read More “Site only doesn’t load when local DNS set to Google’s 8.8.8.8” »

Hello! I’m happy to say dnscheck.tools now shows your average dns resolution round trip time! I’m hoping this helps others in identifying slower dns resolvers so they can switch to a speedier provider. How does it work? Your browser is directed to fetch a url at a randomly generated subdomain (so a new dns lookup … Read More “Measure your dns resolution latency” »

Having set up DNS a bunch of times with both forward and reverse lookup zone i was asked why there’s a need of a reverse lookup zone and since the forward zone is straightforward to explain I can’t explain what system or proces that makes use of a PTR record other than public dns addresses … Read More “Reverse lookup zone” »

TL;DR: My www.domainname.com address works as intended, but domainname.com redirects to an unauthorized website. How can I fix this? I host my business domain through Cloudflare. It recently came to my attention that my domainname.com address redirects to a hacker’s resume/website. If I type in the complete, www.domainname.com address, it works as intended without redirecting. … Read More “Redirection Attack: Limited Knowledge – How To Fix?” »

In Unbound, I can set tls-upstream: yes and then set the forward zone to . with forward-addr: 1.2.3.4#abc123.nextdns.com so that the SNI (my account identifier) can be forwarded with the queries. It seems pdns … Read More “pdns-recursor: Use SNI hostname for DoT forward-zones?” »
