Looking for leads. All help appreciated. When testing our failover from our main FIOS line to our backup basic 25/2 internet connection, the failover works fine, but DNS becomes wonky. Some computers can connect to external sites with no issue, but others don’t. All of them have the same two IPs in the primary and … Read More “DNS not playing nice with failover” »

Huge TTL

Can some one explain why some domains set a huge TTL (several years)? Seems like it makes it really hard to actually effectively change these records. But no cache is gonna held the data for years. I see e.g. ns1.ucy.ac.cy A 194.42.1.50 497664000 ns2.ucy.ac.cy A 194.42.1.55 497664000 ucyweb.ucy.ac.cy A 194.42.1.70 497664000www.ucy.ac.cy CNAME ucyweb.ucy.ac.cy 497664000www.nullsecure.org A … Read More “Huge TTL” »

How does DNS fool geoblocking?

Posted on 03/30/2016 By firstdns

I thought I knew how DNS works; my computer sends a request to resolve a URL to my DNS server, which bubbles up the chain of DNS servers until it gets an answer. Then my computer uses the returned ip address to go straight to the server I was looking for. So how does that … Read More “How does DNS fool geoblocking?” »

Quick question: will changing only the MX records on Host B allow for email to flow normal from Host A?

I believe I’m overthinking this situation so I thought reddit might be able to help. I have a client who is switching from Host A to Host B. Host A has given me the proper MX records to access their mail exchanger, and I have input them into Host B’s DNS, so the only thing … Read More “Quick question: will changing only the MX records on Host B allow for email to flow normal from Host A?” »

I currently have a managed VPS from GoDaddy that has plagued me with DNS issues for quite some time. I thought that I had everything squared away but just received an email from a client stating that a specific user cannot email them. They are using Google Hosted Mail with their website on GoDaddy with … Read More “SERVFAIL Error Only From Specific User” »

I was using a provider but ended up losing my domain because I missed the reminder to login once. I’m now using freedns.afraid.org — I get up to 5 hostnames. I’m wondering if there are any other comparable Dynamic DNS providers. afraid.org has an iOS client to update your ip, but not an android one. … Read More “Free dynamic dns provider that doesn't require login every 30 days?” »

Is OpenDNS pure and no healthy ?

Dnscrypt is massively used nowadays to encrypt the DNS traffic. One node is pointed to the OpenDNS server. Does OpenDNS (L.L.C.) do something evil? Which DNS server should be trusted as the exit node. submitted by /u/JakeTheMaster [link] [comments] Powered by WPeMatico
