Is there an easy & quick (& inexpensive) way for me to capture external DNS queries against our domain? For example, if our domain name is ‘domain.com‘, and we have a website, a mail server and a ftp site (i.e. www.domain.com, mail.domain.com, ftp.domain.com), is there a way for me to tell how many times each … Read More “Easy, Quick & Cheap way to tell who is querying your domain records?” »

One of the teachers at a school that I work for put in a ticket because our antivirus software was blocking one of the websites she uses (littlepassports.com). I noticed that our antivirus software (malwarebytes) was classifying it as a malicious website, and that the IP address it was trying to reach was 127.42.0.29:55000. I … Read More “DNS returning 127.xxx.xxx.xxx address for website” »

I can block a website most of the time using Comcast Xfinity modem parental control. But it seems that I cannot block some particular website even if I list the site at parental control->managed site both for http and https version of the website. Why? I have a DFS name space which is reasonably lengthy (domain.dev.department.state.com.au) is it possible to have just domain.dev ? Obviously I tried just adding a CNAME for domain.dev > domain.dev.department.state.com.au and the nslookup is working but trying to access the share via commandline or exporer comes up ‘path does not exist’ \domainshare$ and \devshare$ work, … Read More “Is it possible to have dot in a DFS namespace alias?” »

This is a cross post from r/linuxquestions… I setup Bind DNS and Postfix/Dovecot on a VPS. This is probably showing my age a little, but the last time I set this stuff up, IPv6 was not in wide use, mail didn’t have dkim, spf or any of that stuff, and Google was still a baby. … Read More “Bind, Postfix and Google” »

Help!! I did this for a client and now they’re domain is down. But the subdomain works fine. Did the subdomain have anything to do with it?? In a DNS server, I have the following configuration _sip._tcp.example.com. 86400 IN SRV 10 0 5060 bigbox.example.com. _sip._tcp.example.com. 86400 IN SRV 10 0 5060 smallbox1.example.com. both SRV have the same priority and weight 0, I have read that load is distributed according to weight if the RR’s have the same priority, however I would like … Read More “DNS servers with same priority and weight 0” »
